Give your capsule a second life

HYDE PARK - Nespresso went all-out to teach consumers how to proactively recycle their coffee capsules at an event held in Hyde Park.

Jean-Paul Le Roux, Nespresso’s head of global business to consumer, said he was confident that South African consumers had caught onto the recycling trend, judging by the success of the Nespresso recycling programme over the past two years.

“We want the coffee experience to be one of pleasure but, we also want our coffee enjoyed with a clear conscience.”

He added that it was in this spirit that the recycling programme was launched two years ago and they were proud to offer club members the capacity to recycle their capsules to be part of their sustainable journey. According to Le Roux, this recycling initiative in South Africa is a first in Africa and was proof enough of the commitment to sustainability.

He said with the support of local partner Oricol, a national company specialising in recycling and reducing all waste, they had set up a process to resurrect capsules and used coffee grounds. “We will continue to work towards expanding our capacity to recycle and towards increasing the number of capsules recycled while exploring innovative programmes which increase awareness and convenience for our club members.”
