A good year for Buccleuch

BUCCLEUCH - The Buccleuch Residents Action Community celebrated its end-of-year achievements.

Neighbours and friends came together to celebrate a year of great accomplishments for the residents association. There were more than 30 people in attendance at the function. Young and old gathered in Buccleuch to not only celebrate, but acknowledge the people who have made great contributions towards the community.

The chairperson of the association, Dumisa Dlamini, acknowledged that the achievements of the association in the last year were not without their challenges. Dlamini went on to thank specific individuals for their personal contributions throughout the year.

Among them were Jenny Armour for facilitating the upgrade of the association’s signboards, Pier Nardin for consistently reporting service delivery issues such as streetlights and potholes, and Jorja Knight for her time and professional expertise.

Robert Blackburn of Saber Tactical Response was also acknowledged for never missing a residents meeting and ensuring residents’ safety, and colleagues Rocky Schaper and Robert Gibbon were recognised for investing time and resources into the suburb as well as ensuring safety.

The police were acknowledged for their time and dedication in keeping the community safe and the crime low. Wendy Robertson, the chairperson of the Sandton Community Policing Forum, was recognised for tirelessly assisting in good relations between the police and the community.

Ward 32 councillor, Bongani Nkomo was thanked for his time and support, especially in the short time that he had served as councillor in the ward.

Peter Berner, who is known to the community as the resident sheriff, was thanked as well for his support and his assistance with security in the community of Buccleuch. Karen Laxton, the association’s secretary was recognised for being reliable and generous with her time, and her efforts to serve.

“We persevere and hope to achieve new goals in 2015,” said Maria Gerondoudis, the public relations officer for the association.
