Dance team needs help from community

SANDTON - Montrose Primary pupil, Katelyn Gouvias and her fellow dance teammates of Pulse dance studio hope to compete in the World Dance championships in Los Angeles.

Her teammates are Jade Lavarone, Naazneem Mayet, Alec Hogewind, Leon Greyling, Lee-Ann Crossley, Diache Lategan, Kayla Hogewind, Bianca Fourie, Mieke Greyling and Larisa Botha. They competed against 6 000 other contestants in the South African Championships of the Performing Arts and walked away with three silver and three gold medals.

“As the gold medals were handed over to each child, we all could see the pride and happiness in their eyes,” she said.

The championships in Los Angeles present dancers with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be scouted by dance agents, experience dance boot camps and win a scholarship to study in America.

The dance team has requested the help of the community to be able to participate in the championships. Their participation in this year’s event is dependent on how much funds they can raise.
