Fun and games on the golf course

BRYANSTON - The Alexander Forbes Insurance Annual Golf Day hosted by non-profit organisation Rays of Hope took place at the Bryanston Country Club.

Rays of Hope will use the funds raised from the charity event towards the empowerment of various community projects in Alexandra township.

Alexander Forbes was the lead sponsors for the event and Rays of Hope secured a full field of four-ball sponsors. Different fun and unconventional activities took place on the golf course. One of them was the Powerfade Marshmallow Longest Drive which was sponsored by Etchells and Young Property Brokers. Golfers were required to substitute golf balls with marshmallows to add a fun spin to the game.

Collinge and Co Funeral Directors brought their graveyard props, coffins and a hearse to the golf course to add a bit of dark wit to the golf course.

Golf presenter Dale Hayes was the programme director for the dinner event that followed. He facilitated a question and answer session before the buffet dinner.

Charles Pitt of Alexander Forbes remarked on the golf day and said the golf day was thoroughly enjoyable and well organised. “It was by far the most fun I’ve ever had at a golf day,” he added.

Guests at the dinner were entertained by watching a short documentary illustrating the projects Rays of Hope is involved in and where the money made from the charity event would be used. A group of youngsters of Ikhaya Lomusa Child and Youth Care Centre entertained guests by performing a gumboot dance, and artworks produced by Alexandra youngsters were up for auction.

A prize giving ceremony was then held to end the evening off in which prizes were awarded to the golfers of the day for various categories, including the top players in the field.
