IN PICTURES: Get It Joburg North’s first Pages & Wine event is a huge hit
SANDTON – If you missed this one, then you've just gotta book for the September event. (Psst: It includes an Italian dinner with a fabulous international author.)
Elegance, style and finesse would be the best descriptions of the first edition of Get It Joburg North’s Pages & Wine event.
These events will be held monthly at different venues in Joburg’s northern suburbs and will feature guest authors.

The first event was held last Wednesday evening, 21 August, at The Raj in the Michelangelo Towers.
Organiser Paul Smith welcomed the reader attendees and Get It Joburg North editor, Daniella Potter, shared the Get It team’s hope that readers would make the Pages & Wine events their monthly book club outings.
In her welcome address, Potter said, “When we first considered the concept of Pages & Wine, we thought: A night out with friends, dinner with bottomless wine and, most importantly, stories from guest authors – what could be better? And here we are this evening.” She also got the readers posing and toasting for a video and the Get It team was snapping photos of the action.
Potter introduced guest author Fiona Snyckers, who shared some insights into her latest book, Lacuna, which is a response to John Maxwell Coetzee’s novel, Disgrace.

Snyckers explained that the book is written from the viewpoint of the main character in Disgrace, Lucy Lurie, as she attempts to get her life back on track. Snyckers said Lucy was on a
mission to find Coetzee to tell her story her way. With a tale so intriguing, the readers were enticed and asked Snyckers many questions.
It was hungry work, and soon a spicy aroma filled the restaurant as the readers spooned butter chicken onto their plates along with naan bread and zesty salad.

Then the readers mingled with the
author, asking her to sign their copies of Lacuna as well as a copy of her one of her other novels, Trinity on Track, which they received in their goodie bags.

There were spoils galore throughout the evening, and it ended on a sweet note with a lucky draw and some terrific prizes – like a Canon camera, cookbooks and vouchers.

Missed out on this one? Then take note: Our September Get It Pages & Wine evening will be at the brand-new (and extraordinarily fabulous) Bistro Dolce Vita in Morningside … where we’ll not only be tucking into Jackie Righi-Boyd’s exceptional food, but also listening to best-selling international author Tony Park, who’ll be chatting about his brand-new book, Ghosts of the Past.
You’ll also walk away with a copy of Tony’s previous bestseller, The Cull, enjoy some fine wine, and receive a fabulous goodie bag.
