Sitting on the banks of the Crocodile River in the Mjejane Game Reserve, a private reserve that forms part of the Kruger, is the luxurious Mjejane River Lodge. Given that all fences between the Mjejane Reserve and Kruger have been removed, the animals move freely and there are plenty of opportunities to see the famous Big 5 and other incredible wildlife that the Kruger is renowned for. Mjejane is the only lodge present in the 4 000 hectare reserve, offering a truly exclusive safari adventure.
The lodge’s location means that each of the rooms boast gorgeous river views and are well-equipped with en-suite bathrooms, hairdryers, tea & coffee stations, mini bar fridges and private patios.
The facilities at the lodge are exceptional and include a welcoming lounge and dining area, sparkling swimming pool, internet access, outdoor boma for star-lit dinners, and a conference center.
The Kruger National Park is the third biggest game reserve in the world and has a diverse collection of fauna and flora. There are over 450 species of birds found in the area surrounding Mjejane, including Martial, Tawny and Fish Eagles; as well as Steppe Buzzards, Lilac-breasted Rollers, and Southern Ground Hornbills who tend to nest close to the lodge.
The highlight of a stay at Mjejane has to be the safari experience. Morning game drives are conducted within the Kruger, whilst evening game drives take place within the private reserve. These game drives are led by professional rangers in open safari vehicles, affording up-close encounters with a variety of animal species.
Bushwalks are generally conducted after breakfast and provide an opportunity to track animals and learn more about the bush. The lodge also offers mountain biking, horse-riding, bird watching, assisted wildlife photography tours, and stargazing experiences.
Being in the southern reaches of the Kruger, guests to Mjejane also have easy access to the Panorama Route and can enjoy other activities like golfing or tiger fishing. For the more adventurous travelers, there is an opportunity to interact with a herd of elephants or take to the air in a hot air balloon.
