The Hussar Grill

Food trends come and go but we think there’s still much to be said for tucking into a juicy steak … and nothing quite like knowing your trusty, local steakhouse.

Enter The Hussar Grill, a premier grillroom with a fab wine selection and a rich legacy, having first opened in 1964 in Rondebosch and franchising over the years.

Curious – and hungry – one Friday evening (what a way to get the #FridayFeels!), we paid a visit to the outlet  in Montecasino, where a sense of the franchise’s heritage is demonstrated by greyscale photos on the walls. Seated in a booth, we were treated to pleasant service and spoilt for choice by the menu.

The prawn and fresh avocado cocktail comes highly recommended as a starter but, in the mood for something meaty, we opted for the cured springbok loin carpaccio – think paper-thin slices topped with Parmesan shavings – totally Instagrammable! For mains, we can vouch for the utterly moreish fillet moutarde (topped with a sauce of double cream and blended mustards). But leave room for dessert … the chocolate vodka martini is said to be a post-dinner tradition at this steak restaurant … and we can see why. It’s a warm, chocolatey vodka topped with cream … just heavenly!

Perfect for a casual dinner, to celebrate a special occasion or even to close that business deal. Set three-course menu from R250.

Happy dining!
