Fashionista on Safari
JOHANNESBURG – Fashion designer Liz Ogumbo-Regisford, who’s #Safari collection made the SA Fashion Week runway, shared her inspiration behind the line.

Originally from Kenya, designer Ogumbo-Regisford describes herself as ‘a self-taught creative entity’ with a specific focus on ‘music in fashion and fashion in music’.
Which makes sense, considering that she is also a performing artist, a radio host and a producer of the Fashion Lab TV and Radio show .
When breaking into the fashion industry, she started off by working as a model, gracing runways in New York, Milano, Paris, and then back to Africa.
“I have designed this collection into an experience through releasing a song that speaks around the collection and this girls story around her journey,” she explained, adding that she also co-directed/co-produced a short fashion film called SAFARI that brings the story to life. “We are living in a very visual world and at the same time, we are also living in a world that will consume as long as you show them how and why.”

The collection is bold, vibrant and on trend with eye-catching prints and flattering fits. “The SAFARI Collection which debuted at SAFW SS 2016 employs wardrobe versatility using a friendly styling clash, juxtaposing the stripes, checkered prints and animal prints styled with heavily textured bold prints using teals and fuschia and a royal purple color, while representing the heart of African inexpressible chic,” she explained.
“Safari, translated into English means a journey. She is exploring the continent and beyond and taking her sass, her chic, her style, her vibrance everywhere with her. Every piece she wears is versatile; easy to style in several ways with different tops/bottoms to achieve different looks.”
The collection consists of high-waisted, slim tailored pants, collared shirts, front slit ‘hi lo’ dresses and skirts as well as Victorian-inspired bralettes, fitted crop jackets and intricate hand-beaded body jewellery.
“The Safari Collection delighted the SA Fashion Week audience and the fashion fraternity with a colorful inspiring show of my latest work entitled #Safari as I voiced my own music track with my soon to be released music single also called Safari,” she concluded.
You can find pieces from Liz Ogumbo-Regisford’s Safari Collection at Zulu African Desifn Emporium at OR Thambo International Airport.
