Prepare your mind for Grietfest

JOBURG - Grietfest, the counter-culture electro-dance festival that gets people moving and shaking, returns this year for an even bigger line-up at an even more exciting, new and recycled venue.

In a time when it is very important to be aware of the delicate balance between nature and development, as well as the depleting environmental resources in the world, Grietfest is taking their party to one of the most environmentally-friendly venues in the city.

The Container Yard is the new venue for Grietfest and is situated on the edge of the Johannesburg CBD. It is littered with hundreds of used shipping containers, which allows for the setup of multiple stages for the event.

It’s the shabby chic industrial setup that makes the venue so appealing for the I-don’t-care hipster youth that finds its artisan forms of entertainment in the Johannesburg area.

The set-up also allows Olmeca Tequila, the organisers of the event, to get creative with the show.

The show has promised South Africa a line-up of some of the country’s most sought-after acts on five stages.

This year, the crowds can see the likes of Okmalumkoolkat, PHPhat, Haezer, RudeOne, Icarus and Rain, and Kyle Watson at the same venue.

The festival is a playful space for people who want to breathe in the energy of the underground music scene and see international artists that would probably not, otherwise, perform for South African audiences.

Grietfest is known for the way it places both foreign and local new talent on a noticeable platform and creates tomorrow’s A-listers.

It also promotes a positive view of the music among party goers, electro-heads and even those who don’t know much about the varied styles of electronic dance music.

This year, Grietfest takes place on 29 August.
