Historic ballet is back
JOBURG - Hailed as one of the greatest of the 19th century ballet classics, La Bayadère returns to South Africa this September.
After an absence of many years, Joburg Ballet’s glittering new production premieres at the Joburg Theatre on 12 September. The production runs until 28 September.
This classic Russian ballet tells the story of the bayadère (or temple dancer) Nikiya, her beloved warrior Solor, and the vengeance that separates them.
Internationally La Bayadère productions are renowned for their opulence, gorgeous costumes, lavish sets, a passionate love triangle and breath-taking dancing.
