Eskom CEO resigns
JOBURG - Eskom Chief Executive Brian Dames has resigned, leaving the helm of the utility during a time when the country’s power supply faces significant strain.
Dames resigned due to “personal reasons”, according to Eskom Chairman Zola Tsotsi.
Tsotsi made the announcement, saying “Brian has served Eskom with great dedication and commitment and we are saddened that we will be losing such an Eskom stalwart.
“I am heartened that Brian will not be leaving us immediately but we will still have the benefit of his vast experience and knowledge until the end of 31 March 2014.”
Dames was appointed as chief executive of Eskom in July 2010.
His resignation follows the departure of another top executive, CFO Paul O’Flaherty in July this year.
Eskom had yet to appoint Dames’s successor but Tsotsi said the process of finding the power utility’s new chief executive is underway.
In November Eskom declared a two-day power emergency, stating that the system was under critical pressure.
