Vagrants keep sprouting near Spruit

According to Ward 102 councillor David Potter and Gordon Mackay of Ward 90 vagrancy was increasing near the Braamfontein Spruit.

“The Spruit is Johannesburg’s biggest treasure, but the hardest to manage,” said Mackay.

“I have witnessed vagrants growing crops and digging up the ground to make structures to live in,” he said. He was aware that the vagrants’ activities were destroying pathways for walkers and cyclists. Mackay has informed residents that the Johannesburg Roads Association were looking into upgrading the pathways near the Spruit.

Mackay and the Parkmore Residents Association want to petition the city council to clean up the Spruit. They hope to obtain 6 000 signatures.
