From tennis to language
MORNINGSIDE – The Sandton Racquets Club is offering holiday camps that include tennis and language lessons.
A local club in Morningside is offering tennis, parties and holiday camps for schoolchildren during the holidays.
Situated on Ballyclare Drive, the Sandton Racquets Club has been around for 30 years and about 10 years ago, Drago Elez took over ownership of the club and is trying to make something more of this facility.
“During the holidays we offer different activities for the children such as language lessons, tennis and soccer. The languages offered are anything from French, English, Chinese and Zulu or Sotho,” said Drago.
The club organises suitable and qualified teachers for all activities. “We also offer the venue for children’s parties or corporate team building days.”
The club is currently undergoing construction to add space for more activities at the club. “We want to create an outdoor gym and have built a small bicycle circuit for the children,” said Drago.
According to him, they have spent between R300 000 and R400 000 on upgrades such as revamping the tennis courts. “All ages are welcome and we have children as young as three years old, up to adults in their 20s.”
The club also has health coaches available to offer health assessments and advice. “Besides all the activities, we also offer free tennis lessons to children in underprivileged schools and regularly donate sports equipment to schools in areas such as Alexandra.”
The Sandton Racquets Club is appealing to the public for donations.
