Du Preez the key to Boks success

JOBURG - The Springboks coach Meyer admitted that if they are to go any further in the Rugby World Cup, Fourie Du Preez is going to play an influential part in their progress.

The Springboks coach Meyer admitted that if they are to go any further in the Rugby World Cup, Fourie Du Preez is going to play an influential part in their progress.

Arguably one of the best scrumhalves to play for South Africa, Du Preez has played an integral role in the Boks resurgence since their humiliating defeat at the hands of the Cherry Blossoms of Japan.

With Victor Matfield struggling with injury and Jean de Villiers out of the tournament, Du Preez has stepped up to the plate, and showed why Meyer can count on him.

Du Preez took over Bok captaincy after Jean de Villiers fractured his jaw in the group stage win over Samoa, and has since led the Boks to two comprehensive victories against Scotland and the USA.

According to Meyer, Du Preez was really struggling with his back leading up to the World Cup and was not sure if he would be part of the team.

Du Preez’s tactical kicking and pin point passing will play a crucial role in the quarter final clash against the wounded Wales team. Wales recently lost to Australia in another hard fought encounter, to finish second in pool A to set up an enticing encounter against the Boks.
