Sparks to fly when Chiefs face Ajax again

JOBURG - Fresh from their MTN8 final clash, Ajax cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs are set to collide again, this time in the Absa Premiership.

The MTN8 final has come and gone and Kaizer Chiefs consider their defeat to Ajax Cape Town as water under the bridge as they pick up the pieces to face their nemesis yet again.

The million dollar question on everybody’s lips is whether the youthful Ajax outfit will make it two out of two against Chiefs when they clash in an Absa Premiership match on 26 September.

It will be interesting to see what the Urban Warriors will do with the home advantage as Amakhosi will have to travel to Cape Town for this clash.

Kick-off for this match is set for 8.15pm at the Cape Town Stadium, and Ajax will be determined to do a double against Chiefs.

Ajax might have been crowned MTN8 champions, but that does not mean they eclipsed Amakhosi in the field of play. If anything, the match could have easily gone either way had Amakhosi buried the chances they got.

This is not to say Ajax didn’t fluff their chances, but Amakhosi had more clear-cut goal scoring opportunities which could have easily turned the tables in their favour.

It is going to be interesting to see ukuthi iyozala nkomoni (what the outcome will be). But what the fans can look forward to is an entertaining clash that will certainly produce sparks to set alight the 2010 Fifa World Cup venue in the Mother City.

During their welcome back home frenzy at Cape Town airport, the Urban Warriors sounded a warning to their counterparts in the Absa Premiership, claiming they have arrived after so many years in the peripheries of football.

But before they meet Amakhosi again, Ajax will have to overcome what could be described as easy meat in the form of a struggling Mamelodi Sundowns on 23 September.

This clash will be right in the Brazilians’ backyard – the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville outside Pretoria. Downs, which has the most expensively assembled squad in the Premier Soccer League but frequently fails to deliver, are expected to be devoured by the Warriors.

The Brazilians have so far played four matches in the premiership, winning one, drawing one and losing two, one of the losses being to league rookies, Lamontville Golden Arrows which gained promotion from the National First Division.
