Beaulieu College pupil rides to the top

KYALAMI – BEAULIEU College pupil, Cheyenne de Beer, was selected to represent Gauteng for Open Showjumping and Open Equitation at the 2015 South African Pony Rider Championships held in Pietermaritzburg.

Gauteng placed first in equitation and third in showjumping.
De Beer won the Pony Rider Open Showjumping Champion title and was the Reserve Open Equitation Champion at the show, while rider Tegan Bruyns was the Pony Rider Open Equitation Champion and Travis Dawson was the Reserve Pony Rider Open Showjumping Champion. Bruyns and Dawson also attend Beaulieu College.
With such an achievement, Midrand Reporter sat down with the rising star De Beer to find out what makes her tick.
De Beer, who has been riding for a number of years, said her parents introduced her to the sport and she hasn’t looked back since.
“My parents introduced me to ponies for fun rides when I was very young and I got hooked,” she said.
“What I love most about the sport is the constant communication between myself and my horses. I also love that feeling when my horse and I have put in a lot of work together and things just start coming together and our hard work pays off .”
The animal lover is no stranger to hard work and has a string of awards to prove it. In 2013, De Beer won her first two big shows, the Pony Rider Micro Derby and the Pony Rider 1.15m Presidents Cup.
Last year De Beer added the Pony Rider Intermediate SA Equitaiton Championship to her list of accomplishments.
This year, she has won the Pony Rider 1.15m Presidents Cup and the Pony Rider 1.2m Nissan Easter Festival Grand Prix. At the Pony Rider Derby she won the Pony Rider 1.2m Victor Ludorum.
And if that’s not enough, De Beer also had the privilege of competing in an international friendly competition in Colombia, South America, where she finished ninth overall in Division A, and came home with the award for the rider with the best riding style
