Bryanston paddlers come out as 9 Miler Veteran champs

BRYANSTON - The Rietvlei Dam was the perfect setting for the Centurion 9 Miler canoe race, with Bryanston residents Luke Symons and James Goddard winning the doubles Veteran category.

The race, which kick-starts the serious annual canoeing season, followed crashing thunder and heavy rain, which did not deter the paddlers from the exciting competition.

Spokesperson for the Gauteng Canoe Union, Jennie Dallas said, “Despite the dreary weather and predictions, the race, nevertheless, attracted a good field of paddlers unwilling to miss out on their annual kick-start event, which is always popular and well-supported with excellent hospitality from the local club at Rietvlei.”
