Sandton resident impresses at novice canoe race

SANDTON - Francis Porter did his hometown proud at the recent BASF Novice river race.

Porter braved chilly weather and managed to complete the race, the first for the canoe season, in an impressive time of 01:20:20.

The race, shorter than usual, ran for a distance of nearly 15km from Henley On Klip to Meyerton and was especially shorter than usual to accommodate novice paddlers.

It was hosted by Watuni Canoe Club and sponsored by BASF and took place on 18 April.

Porter is a member of the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club based at Emmarentia Dam and is looking forward to an impressive run as the river season gains momentum.
