Wanderers celebrates 75 years
ILLOVO - The Wanderers Golf Club celebrated its milestone 75th anniversary with a plethora of fun events during the week of 28 October to 1 November.

On 30 October the club held an eight ball commando which consisted of 18 teams of eight teeing off simultaneously from 18 different points on the Wanderers course. The game ran through the day and ended with a beer festival to add to the anniversary festivities.
Golf director at the club Lenn Flanagan said, “I think this is celebrating, not only golf, but sport. There have been a number of national representatives from various sports who have migrated towards the Wanderers Golf Club. And celebrating sport through this week is very special.”
The week began with a night golf game on 28 October, an open ‘pitch and play’ on 29 October which saw former professional Denis Hutchinson playing, and will end with a special gala dinner on 1 November.
Flanagan said the week was an opportunity for all the members to celebrate the camaraderie and friendship that has been built by the club. Chairman of the club Chris Leicher, who has been a member for 28 years, said, “I would say that Wanderers is the most internationally renowned golf club in South Africa. And over the years it’s been very inviting and can be considered a landmark in this area.”
