In it to Winn it
BLUE HILLS - KIRSTEN Winn's name is well known in eventing circles, but the rider turned her attention to showjumping on 30 March and clinched a victor ludorum win.
She was one of many riders competing at Penny Place Stables in Blue Hills over the weekend of 29 and 30 March. The combined 1.2m and 1.3m classes were held on 30 March and proved to be exciting.
Penny Place Stable’s Trevor Bern kept the spectators entertained with his announcer’s commentary and the area’s course looked like a work of art. Penny Place Stable’s gardener David Zimkhona Tsheke has put his creativity into the jumps and they proved to add excitement to as many of the horses did a double-take at some of the jumps.
For Winn, however, the courses proved to be easy game. Winn and her horse Gondor Ube Rouge were placed in both classes to win the victor ludorum.
In the A2 competition for 1.2m and 1.3m combined class, which was one round judged on speed, Winn’s father, Graham riding Seeis Eiros won the class with Martyn Swanepoel riding Voigtskirch Kardinal in second place and Winn riding Ube Gondor Rouge in third.
In the combined 1.2m and 1.3m competition, conducted over a first round and a jump-off, Natalie Ermen riding Frischegewaagd Monteo jumped to victory with a fast jump-off time.
Kirstin Winn took second place on Gondor Ube Rouge and third place on Gondor Ube Royale. David Miller placed fourth riding Franlaren Du Soir, Kimberly Williamson placed fifth riding Brandenburg Chianti and Alexis Velvet and Donna Barnard placed seventh riding Callaho Daquiri.
Penny Place Stable’s Anneli Wucherpfennig made mention of the capable Gene Gebhardt riding Contacto whose win in the exciting 1.1m championship class lifted the spectator’s spirits and ended the show on a high note.
