‘Africa stand up and take responsibility’

Peter Thomo Molatjane writes: It is sad that during this whole chapter of xenophobic killings and attacks, the rest of the Africa has conveniently laid the whole blame on South Africa.

The good thing is that SA people and the government, although reluctantly, are taking responsibility.

It is our backyard.

What the rest of African countries are not acknowledging is why and what is making their nationals move out of their countries in such large numbers.

None of these countries are taking responsibility for the extreme violence in their countries which makes people flee. Collapsed economies due to corrupt leaders who loot their country’s wealth, lack of democracy in some countries, lack of basic services.

It will help if our fellow African countries can also do their part and uplift their citizens to have a better life there.

People will always move around but let’s not make it be about them running from the extreme discomfort in their countries nor prejudiced attacks in the countries where they’ve decided to relocate to.

Africa, stand up and let’s all take the responsibility for the South African xenophobic attacks.
