Third world city?

Rick Wilson writes:

I was shocked to read of the immediate closure of the Sandton City Post Office.

I have a post box at the Sandton City Post office and I am astonished that, to the best of my knowledge, we were not given

any formal notification of this closure. It’s simply not good enough to tell us that another temporary post office will be opened in a parking area in three to four weeks time. In the interim, what do we do about urgent postage?

How does the public deal with urgent correspondence such as e-toll notifications, legal documents and other letters requiring rapid reply? The authorities should have given all post box holders at least two months written advanced notification in order that they could advise those from whom they normally receive correspondence. I am aware that the national postal service is under huge duress and facing closure, and when one witnesses this type of inconsiderate, inefficient and downright incompetent service, is it any wonder? I don’t suppose we will all receive any compensation on paying rental charges for postboxes which temporarily cease to exist? Is Johannesburg a third world city?
