Last week I’m driving down Kelvin Drive and, as usual, watching out for other motorists tailgating me in my rearview mirror.
Another motorist in a white double cab is sitting on my rear bumper flashing his lights at me and becoming very frustrated – obviously unaware of the speed limit – that I am driving at 40 kph.
He overtakes me on a solid white line, and once in front of me, slams on his brakes to show his disapproval.
Fortunately the traffic light at the corner of Rivonia Road does not turn red and we go our different ways, avoiding what could have resulted in a very unpleasant, if not downright dangerous, confrontation.
Surely with such a low speed limit on a main through road, the authorities should provide a lot more signage informing motorists of the speed limit. All that is provided at the moment is one speed limit sign in each direction and the one on the Rivonia Road side is very small and mounted high up on a pole.
With the recent tragic incident in which a motorcyclist was killed in a road rage-related incident, I feel that the authorities should take extraordinary steps to ensure motorists are aware of the speed limit on this section of road – rather than risk another deadly road-rage incident.
Couldn’t agree with you more, problem is our friends at SAPS and our government couldn’t care less.. thanks ANC for another amazing cockup.
