Begging with children disheartening

ROSEBANK - As a concerned citizen I am disappointed each time I drive past mothers begging with their young children.

My heart breaks and as much as I want to help I know it is not appropriate to give the women money.

Nothing will come of my efforts when contacting the police, so it is with a heavy heart that I contact you for help.

On the very dangerous Modderfontein offramp in Edenvale a woman sits with a young child begging every day in the excessive heat or on cold day’s. They are there from early in the morning to dusk. This poor child looks sick and exhausted and since he looks younger than five years old I can’t imagine how damaging this is to his development.

In 2010 there was a call to action by the police and media to ban this practice, however, it has sadly become a common sight again.

Each time I pass these women with children I want to take the babies to a safe place, but that is not possible. Is there nothing more affirmative that we can do for this poor child?

Perhaps we can motivate the police and social services to confiscate these children, and bust the criminal syndicates that rent some of these babies out.
