Taxi troubles on our roads

FOURWAYS - Metro police should prevent taxis taking over roads.

If you drive on Gauteng highways, and the not-so-busy arterial roads such as Main Road past Lonehill or Witkoppen Road, you will see Metro police trapping unwary mothers and pensioners doing their daily chores outside of peak times.

Two weeks ago four officers were spotted manning the trap at 10am at the bottom of Magaliessig.

The question I have is: why doesn’t the Metro police deploy these officers where they can prevent situations such as taxis taking over roads?

Who prepares the daily roster for the Metro officers who want to do a good job, but after pitching up for work and finishing their coffee either don’t have a clue as to what is taking place in the morning rush hour, or don’t care what is happening?

Don’t buy the story that there are not enough cops to cover all areas .

The ones I mentioned could easily sort out errant taxi drivers.

Visible policing is a deterrent and should be aggressively adopted .
