The annual national mathematics competition is back for another fun instalment. With entries closing tomorrow (28 February), this is the last chance for South African primary schools to enter the 2020 competition. Last year, over 1 000 schools took part, 80 000 maths boffins participated from grades four to seven nationally.
A legacy competition dating back to 1977, the 2020 Nestlè Nespray South African Mathematics Challenge was created to give access to learners to engage with mathematics. It helps to develop future leaders by providing them with the necessary skills to be critical-thinkers and solve problems.
Primary schools across South Africa are being encouraged to enter the competition and sharpen learners’ numeracy skills. In partnership with the South African Mathematics Foundation and Amesa, learners’ participation will also help improve mathematical knowledge and understanding of problem-solving concepts which, in turn, will help them be a better learner as they progress through school.
Schools have to enter learners for the competition by submitting an entry form, which is available www.samf.ac.za/en/sa-mathematics-challenge
