Sandton Guardians encourage safe shopping this festive season

SANDTON – The Sandton Guardians would like to wish the community a safe festive season with the following shopping safety tips.

The Sandton Guardians would like to encourage the community to practice the following shopping safety tips during this festive season:

  • Do not accept help from unknown people at an ATM/banks
  • Check ATMs before using – card scammers will be frequenting ATMs
  • Make sure your vehicle is locked before walking away (check doors)
  • Be wary of the people around when paying, especially by card
  • Do not let your bank/credit cards out of your view when paying
  • Be wary of the vehicles leaving the mall/shopping centre behind you
  • Using a lanyard around your cellular device to prevent snatching/misplacement
  • Do not be afraid to bring attention to any uncomfortable situations such as crowds near bathroom entrances
  • Have an auto-lock feature to prevent snatchers from accessing an unlocked phone
  • While waiting for an e-hailing taxi service, you are at high risk of snatching – keep your phone safe and locked
  • Have a secure username/password for iTunes/Android so your phone cannot be unlinked. Be familiar with your credentials so your phone can be traced.

“We would like to wish everyone a joyous and safe festive season,” said Guardians chairman Dhiren Byjnal.
