A suspect was arrested in Sandown on 26 October during the Johannesburg Pride Parade and Festival for the possession of stolen cell phones.
According to Captain Granville Meyer, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, the 41-year-old suspect robbed victims of their cell phones during the festival.
“After the police members searched, they found him in possession of the cell phones. The cell phones were later identified by the owners after several theft cases were opened.”
The Johannesburg Pride Facebook page had urged attendees who were involved in an incident to go to the Sandton Police Station as ‘a number of arrests’ were made.
Meyer added that the suspect appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 28 October.
