Smartshoppers indulge in seafood and bubbly
SANDTON – Smart-shopper customers got a taste of bigger and better things to come at the Pick n Pay fish market.

Seafood lovers had an exceptional time as they indulged in their favourite delicacies at the Pick n Pay on Nicol Seafood and Bubbly Festival in Sandton. Upon arrival, customers were given a chance to taste a variety of seafood meals on offer for free and then buy the ones they enjoyed the most, with some bubbly to wash down.
Divisional general manager at Pick n Pay, Dave Ramsden said the event was a reward for their loyal smart-shopper customers. “We decided to host it to say ‘thank you’ because our customers have been amazing. The shop is under revamp as visible by the construction site and there’s a lot happening, so we just wanted to appreciate our customers for continued patronage,” Ramsden said.

He added that they appreciated that the customers had stuck around despite the noise, dust and things moving around which is not the most ideal shopping experience. Ramsden said customers could expect a lot of awesome things to come,
“We’ve got a brand-new fish market that will be opening when we re-open the store and this is a little taste of what we will have in that fish market.”

He added that they wanted to ‘democratise’ seafood because it shouldn’t be that expensive. “We asked ourselves how we could make it more affordable and how do we actually make people realise that seafood is healthy and it’s fantastic. We subscribe to the endangered fish list and we make sure that we don’t sell anything on the red zone.”

Ramsden also said they are the sushi masters in the area who serve fresh sushi every day and have done so for 11 years. “So, we continue with that while we add all sorts of other things such as oysters, crayfish tails, lobsters and more. We will be re-opening round about the middle of October towards the end of October. We will continue offering the customers the best even through the construction phase.”
