IDP meeting in Marlboro disrupted by chanting attendees

MARLBORO – IDP meeting heated and heavy with attendees upset over lack of service delivery to Alexandra.

IDP meeting in Marlboro (15 April) is disrupted with chants and jeers from many attendees claiming that not enough has been done in Alexandra.

Mayor Herman Mashaba tried to deliver the annual IDP tonight in Marlboro. He addressed community members of Alexandra who protested for nearly a week

“Unlike the past, I will not be involved in an exercise of lying to the people of Alexandra or anywhere else in Johannesburg for this matter.  It is for this reason that my engagement with the people of Alexandra will take place during the scheduled IDP Public Consultation session on Monday 15 April,” said Mashaba on 5 April.

The meeting was filled with attendees interested in the information while others tore up IDP notes from the meeting.

Speaker of council Vasco da Gama canceled the meeting at around 7.15pm.

Sandton Chronicle journalist Laura Pisanello was present at the meeting and kept readers updated on Twitter:
