Montrose Primary School excelled in the 2017 Horizon Maths Competition Awards with 14 Montrose schoolchildren in the top 200.
More than 50 000 schoolchildren from 310 primary schools took part in the first round in Gauteng. Participants from Grade 5 to 7 wrote the same test and 5 500 schoolchildren qualified for the second round.
Of the top 200, 168 were in Grade 7, 23 in Grade 6 and 17 in Grade 5.
Montrose Primary had three schoolchildren in the top 10. Jonathan Penumala in Grade 5 was the overall winner of the competition with Kabir Bhattacharjee in Grade 6 taking 10th spot and Abraham Mathee in Grade 7 in 8th position.

The schoolchildren received certificates, medals and other prizes. In addition, Montrose received a trophy for being 2nd best performing school for two years in a row and also awarded another trophy for top Maths Educators. Montrose would like to thank the parents for their support.
