Entertaining those who need it most
MARLBORO – Read which care centre was the lucky recipient of a day of fun thanks to two generous entities.
Property company, Adrienne Hersch and Johannesburg Water recently visited the children of Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre to provide them with a day of fun.
Popcorn, balloons, donated toys and a puppet show kept the youngsters entertained. The centre is an orphanage and daycare centre which provides a place of safety for abandoned, abused and neglected children in Alex.
Administrator of the centre, Otilia Ncube said, “A lot of our kids come here at a very young age and some from extremely poor and dangerous conditions. We currently have 14 boys and girls who stay with us.
“The sad part is that when they turn 14 years old they leave the centre due to [financial] reasons.” Thuthuzela receives funding from the government, however, when a child is moved to a State institute the grant and rebate ends.

Adrienne Hersch agent, Saajida Ewlahi said, “Some of these children don’t even own a pen so to see their faces light up for a balloon is really heartwarming. We do need the community to pull together to help Thuthuzela with donations of any kind.”
Ncube added, “We are trying to purchase the building next to ours to increase Thuthuzela’s size and actually have a separate boys’ and girls’ house. Any donations would be appreciated.”
