A resident, Michael Enslin said, “We have slowly but surely begun picking ourselves up, but a major hindrance to us achieving this has been the waste and destruction along the river which has not been cleaned up by our regional services.

“All along the river lie large trees and branches as well as garbage in general. Not only is this an obvious breeding ground for pests and disease, but further endangers everyone when the river floods again.”

No help in sight.

According to Enslin, ward councillor Bongani Nkomo has been working non-stop with the residents to get action from the regional council, however, the council has only cleared one access bridge.

“We as a community feel as though regional services for as much as they were all actioned the day after the flood, are purposely slacking and failing to provide us with security needed after such an event.

“The holiday season is almost upon us and with heavy rains predicted to start in December carrying over into January, our fear is that we will be in further danger. It is my hope that someone can pick up this story and report on this negligence.”
The City Council was yet to comment at the time of going to press.
