Cub receives badge

BRYANSTON – A Cub of the 1st Bryanston Cub Pack has been awarded her Leaping Wolf Badge after completing a series of tasks.

A Cub of the 1st Bryanston Cub Pack was presented with her Leaping Wolf Badge, a badge which must be completed before a Cub’s 11th birthday.

Jessica Chamberlain received the badge by completing a number of special tasks and projects before she moved up to the Scout troop.

For her personal challenge, Chamberlain chose to complete a six-month training course offered by the Field Guides Association of South Africa. She is now a qualified junior field guide, and apart from learning about the environment, she could also have a possible career in conservation in the future.

Chamberlain also had to complete a greening project, find out about a topical global issue and was challenged to research a technology of her choice. She had to present her findings to the rest of the children in the Cub pack.

Gary Pienaar, an adult leader of the 1st Bryanston Cub Pack said, “The completion of this award takes significant personal effort, discipline and self-motivation.”

He added that this was a personal challenge that the Cub worked on independently from the structured programme which was offered at their weekly meetings, and this provided leadership skills. “Jessica becomes the fourth member of the pack to have been awarded the Leaping Wolf this year,” said Pienaar.

Scouting is an outdoor-based educational programme which aims to equip young people with the skills and self-confidence to become future leaders in our communities. Membership is open to boys and girls.
