UPDATE – WATCH: Structural collapse in Sandton, 2 people rescued
Emer-G-Med paramedics and the City of Johannesburg Fire Department are attending to a structural collapse at a construction site on the corner of West and Rivonia Roads, in Sandton.

UPDATE: 15 November 2016, 14.50pm:
The Aveng Grinaker-LTA Trencon joint venture has confirmed that there has been a staging collapse at its Stella Road construction site in Sandton, which resulted in the unfortunate injury of two construction workers.
In response to media queries, Aveng Grinaker-LTA Trencon stated, “They [injured] have been taken to hospital for medical attention and we await news of their well-being. Ensuring the highest safety standards at all our operations is integral to the way we conduct our business, and the health and safety of our employees and contractors remains our primary concern.”
“Activity at the site has been suspended pending a full investigation into the cause of the accident and we will provide the necessary support to the individuals concerned and their families.”
UPDATE: 15 November 2016, 11:30am: : Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi has confirmed that two men who were injured have been taken to a hospital.

He said, “The men injured at the construction site after the building collapsed have been taken to Sunninghill Hospital. One of the victims sustained critical injuries while the other had minor injuries to moderate injuries.
The construction site is across across the road from the Sandton Gautrain station.

He said the cause of the collapse is not yet known.

Initial Report: 15 November 2016, 10:50am: Emer-G-meg spokesperson Max Cohen said “At this stage it is believed that two people are trapped and are in a critical condition. Advanced Life Support paramedics are working to stabilise the patients, while Fire & Rescue officials are working to free them from beneath the rubble.”

The events leading up to the collapse are unknown and will be investigated by local authorities.
The construction company, Trencon, has not commented on the incident yet. The company has said it will release a statement later today.
