A suspect, allegedly responsible for a robbery in Parkmore, chose an unconventional hiding place before being nabbed by ADT security guards.
On 7 November at around 11.30am, a suspect allegedly climbed over a pedestrian gate into a property in 7th Street, Parkmore.
In the Sandton Chronicle article, Crime on the rise, Week ending 28 October, Parkmore residents were warned to be more vigilant as crime had become an issue in the area with the festive season approaching.
The suspect allegedly used a brick to break a window and gained access into the house. At this point, the alarm was triggered and ADT reaction officer, Lawrence Mathe, was dispatched to the scene.
When Mathe arrived, he saw the broken window and called for back-up. ADT reaction officer, Ian Ncube, arrived and together, the two security guards entered the property. They conducted a search and found the suspect hiding in a Wendy house and promptly apprehended him. The pair recovered several stolen items including a video camera, jewellery and a bag.
The police were notified by the security company and arrived at the property to arrest the suspect.
Theunis Kotze, general manager of ADT Inland Region said, “Now is the time when housebreakings increase as the festive season approaches. Fortunately, in this incident, the alarm was set and we were alerted. Residents need to be vigilant about setting their alarms and ensuring doors and windows are locked and that the perimeter security is working.”
Kate Wardle, deputy chairperson of the Parkmore Community Association said, “We [the association] are very pleased to learn that a suspect was arrested as there have been a number of incidents recently where a suspect breaks into a home via the bathroom window. We do not know if this is the same suspect, but we congratulate the guards on this arrest in the fight against crime. Remember to secure your windows and gates.”
