Charitable red shoes
SANDTON – Ronald McDonald House Charities hosted a charity event in Sandton and attendees all came with their red shoes to show their support.

A total of 190 pairs of red shoes stepped their way into the Sandton Convention Centre on 3 September, in support of the annual Red Shoe Gala for charity.
Ronald McDdonald, the iconic mascot for fast food brand, McDonalds, wears large red shoes. It was, therefore, fitting that a charity event for Ronald McDonald House Charities South Africa (RMHC SA) encouraged attendees to wear red shoes.
The event raised more than R300 000, which will be used to build the first Ronald McDonald House in Africa, located at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Parktown.
The house will provide accommodation and meals for families whose children are being medically treated. The aim of this project is to keep the families close to their little ones when they are being treated in hospital. However, a shortfall of R1.7- million is still outstanding for the project to be completed.
LaMaude Motloung was one of the grateful beneficiaries in attendance. Motloung explained that her son was premature and hospitalised at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. “I named him Ronald after the charity [RMHC SA] which helped me through a very traumatic time in my life. Ronald is now a happy, healthy little boy.”
