House robbers delay case with change of lawyers

ALEXANDRA – Marlboro house robbery case delayed as accused change legal representation.

Three men who are currently in custody for alleged armed house robbery, which occurred in Marlboro on 3 November last year, had their case postponed to a later date by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to allow the suspects time for legal consultation with a second lawyer.

This after the suspects changed their legal representation after several failed attempts to secure bail.

Two of their accomplices are at still large. The five are said to have been dressed in reflector jackets when they allegedly robbed the occupants of the home.

At gunpoint, the suspects pounced on and assaulted the homeowner as he struggled to open a remote controlled gate which was jammed allegedly by the men.

Afterwards, they carried the victim into the garage where they searched him and took his cellphone and other personal items before forcing him into the house where they demanded rings, jewellery, cellphones and other valuables from the wife. Before they could collect the valuables, they heard police sirens near the house and four of the suspects fled towards the gate were two were arrested by police who had been alerted of the robbery by the daughter who called 10111.

The other two escaped. The fifth suspect was found in the house and arrested after he claimed the male victim was his friend. Two cellphones and the robbers’ firearm were retrieved.
