Pink Ribbon opens its doors in Parkmore
PARKMORE – The Pink Ribbon breast screening centre has opened. Read up on its offering here...

The Pink Ribbon breast screening centre opened in Parkmore last month and was founded by Dr Jowie Mbengo.
“We are a specialist centre. We specialise in mammography and we do everything around it that assists with diagnosis,” said Mbengo.
The centre is a space for women to receive a mammogram with the latest equipment, including groundbreaking tomosynthesis, which Mbengo explained, “It’s three-dimensional mammography, which is a special form where the breast is reconstructed.”
She added that this performance ensures that doctors do not miss anything, while being more accurate than the conventional processes used today, providing a higher diagnostic accuracy.
The centre is located in the heart of Parkmore on 11th Street, with beautiful and safe premises that differ from the harsh hospital environment that many women are used to.
Mbengo said, “The majority of the clients that we see are healthy. You wouldn’t want to go to a radiology department at a hospital when you’re healthy, because it’s a very depressing environment. The patients who come here are healthy and are coming for a check-up.”
The centre also hosts a Corporate Social Investment programme which allows women who receive a mammogram to nominate other women who they feel should receive this service free of charge due to the fact that the highly intricate processes that they use are usually only accessible to those with the means.
Mbengo urged all women to take a mammogram. She said, “A mammogram can pick up cancer two years before anything is felt by a healthcare professional or yourself.”
