M1/Grayston bridge collapse inquiry continues
SANDTON – Murray & Roberts expected to testify at M1 Grayston Drive pedestrian bridge collapse.
According to the South African Government News Agency, the next sitting of the M1/Grayston Drive pedestrian and cyclist structural bridge collapse enquiry is set to start on 7 July with testimony expected from construction company Murray & Roberts.
It is expected to continue until 15 July.
The Section 32 enquiry was set up by the Department of Labour after the collapse of the temporary bridge at the M1 Grayston Drive pedestrian bridge. The bridge was being constructed to connect Sandton and Alexandra.
The collapse left one person dead while injuring 19 others.
The enquiry, in terms of Occupational Health and Safety, will investigate instances of negligence and will be presided over by forensic investigator Lennie Samuel.
The City of Johannesburg, Johannesburg Development Agency, engineering company Royal HaskoningDHV, scaffolding company Formscaff, the Engineering Council of South Africa and the National Union of Mineworkers will all be expected to testify during the enquiry.
