Small change makes a difference
SANDTON - CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA receives windfall
CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA was elated to receive a cheque for R100 000 from PNA group general manager Herman Botha.
CHOC’s head office in Rivonia had the cheque presented at CHOC House in Saxonwold and was received by founder Sadie Cutland and CEO, Carl Qeiros.
PNA is a retail store with a focus on stationery, art and craft materials, books and educational books and other related products.
The R100 000 was raised through the PNA Penny Fund where contributions are generated through collection tins placed at till points, and an instore promotion in all PNA stores.
A cash donation option is also available for those wanting to donate lump sums. This initiative began last year when PNA selected CHOC to be the PNA Penny Fund’s first cause beneficiaries.
CHOC is the only organisation in South Africa that provides comprehensive countrywide support for children with cancer and other life-threatening blood disorders, and their families. Their range of comprehensive support to affected families includes parent-to-parent support, counselling by a CHOC social worker, and practical support such as accommodation in CHOC houses nationwide, transport and recreational activities.
In addition, the foundation creates awareness, particularly on the early detection of cancer in children, supports health professionals and upgrades treatment facilities into child-friendly environments and advocates for those whose lives have been affected by this disease.
The foundation relies heavily on the private sector and individuals for funding to continue the great work.
The foundation said it was grateful to PNA for their enthusiastic support and their desire to assist in creating more awareness about childhood cancer in South Africa and supporting children with cancer and blood disorders, and their families. CHOC said it is through such great individuals and companies that the foundation is encouraged to continue the work that they do.
