Spokesperson for the police, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said that although it hasn’t been confirmed whether the suspects are responsible for any other crimes, the car they were travelling in, identified as a Kia Cerato, was involved in a hijacking.
Naidoo added that the police recovered the vehicle and one handgun, which went for ballistic tests in order to determine whether it had been used in other crimes.
Two of the suspects are currently being held at the Alexandra Police Station ahead of their appearance at Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on 8 April, while the suspect injured in the shootout is still in hospital.
