Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station, said the workers were replacing guard rails when a 25-year-old man approached them in a VW Caravelle.
“He wanted petrol for his car and the workers told him that their cars do not use petrol,” explained Maphakela.
“He pointed a firearm at the construction workers and demanded money. They gave him R30 and told him they had no more money.”
During the incident, one of the workers managed to call the police who arrived and arrested him.
The suspect was detained at Sandton Police Station and is expected to appear in court soon.
