Police launch manhunt for Grayston robbers

SANDTON - The police have launched a manhunt for four men involved in an attempted hijacking and robbery which took place at the Grayston Drive off-ramp in Sandton on 31 January.

Spokesperson for the police, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, said Sandton police were investigating an armed robbery and attempted murder case following the attack on 11 foreign journalists who were on their way to Sandton from OR Tambo International Airport at about 6pm.

The taxi in which the journalists were travelling was cut off by a BMW. Three armed suspects then entered the vehicle and searched the victims. They then caught sight of a police vehicle. Two fled on foot and the third jumped into the BMW which sped away.

The two on foot began firing shots randomly and shot a journalist in the head. The victim was promptly transported to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Dlamini added, “A manhunt for these suspects travelling in a BMW has been launched and police are appealing to anyone who might have information to come forward.

“Information may be forwarded to Crime Stop at all hours. Members of the public are warned not to confront these suspects as they are considered to be armed and dangerous.”

It is unclear if the suspects made off with any belongings.
