Concerns and objections platform over Pikitup site

WOODMEAD - A public participation and consultation meeting will be held on 9 February from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the Country Club Johannesburg for all the areas that use the Pikitup site situated at the corner of Woodmead and Woodlands drives.

The meeting pertains to the application for a new license for general waste in terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008), as amended and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, for Woodmead Garden Site Woodlands Drive and R55, Sandton, Farm Portion 108/5-IR[21728M2], Woodmead (Region E Sandton).

All Interested and/or affected parties have been invited to attend and will be registered as such including the concerns and objections lodged.
Notice is given in terms of the regulations of the National Environmental Management Act, (Act 7 of 1998) of intent to apply for exemption from certain of the conditions contained in the regulations in order to complete, rectify and rehabilitate any environmental impact on the activity.

The operation and licensing of the existing garden site comprises of the following activities:
– Temporary storage of garden refuse, paper, glass, cans, plastic, e-waste and metal.
– Sorting and shredding of garden waste.
– Waste will be separated into recyclable and non-recyclable materials and distributed for recycling where applicable. Waste generated on site will be sorted into paper, plastic, glass, biodegradable, rubber, metal etc.
– Paper, glass, scrap metal, tins, cardboard, plastic, cans, e-waste, builder’s rubble green waste. Therefore the correct and applicable Listing Notice is Notice 1(921).
