Revolutionary therapy now available in Sandton
RIVONIA – Sandton residents looking for alternative forms of healing can now make use of a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber.
The therapy, hailed as one of the first of its kind in the country, is an alternative form of therapy focused on helping with the treatment of illness such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and health issues such as sports injuries, varicose veins and migraines, among others.
Joseph Eliazar Winer who is the exclusive distributor of Biobarica Hyperbaric Systems in South Africa, explained how the hyperbaric chamber worked.
“Basically, the chamber provides oxygen under a pressurised environment, allowing it to be distributed to a multitude of areas in your body instead of just where it’s needed,” he said.
“It’s the same concept as bottled sparkling water in that when the bottle is closed, no air bubbles are able to go out but as soon as you open it, the bubbles appear due to lack of pressure.”
He explained that oxygen gets transported not only to the red blood cells but also to blood plasma which carries blood components to other areas of the body. This means that affected areas are able to receive more oxygen directly, making healing quicker.
“This is why we opted to make it available, to help patients with soothing pain and to give them a better chance at recovery,” he said.
Winer said the therapy was suitable for all ages, is affordable and could be used by anyone, sick or not, on the recommendation of a medical doctor. “Essentially, we want to show residents some effective solutions available to help with healing,” he said.
The hyperbaric treatment is available at the Rivonia Medical, Sports and Therapy Centre.
