Holiday safety tips

JOBURG - With the holiday spirit in the air and the festive season approaching, Douglasdale Sector 4 Community Policing Forum chairperson, David Foley, mentioned a few things to consider when going on holiday.

“When going on holiday, make sure your alarm is working; test it before leaving your home,” Foley said.

He also advised the following:

  •  Ask your neighbour to keep an eye on your property; however, it is also a good idea to get a house-sitter at a nominal fee
  •  Make sure all windows and doors are locked and all keys removed from the locks
  •  Avoid a build-up of delivered mail to you house or unit, this will show no one is at home
  •  Secure all doors and windows of your home and use your alarm when the house is vacant and when not home at night
  •  Be aware of all your shopping bags when walking from shop to shop
  •  Keep your shopping trolley close to you at all times after exiting the store.

Foley wishes the community a wonderful festive season.
