Tow truck drivers protest against alleged corruption of insurance brokers

ILLOVO - Around 18 tow truck drivers parked their vehicles along Rivonia Road between Boundary Road and Central Avenue  on 1 December in protest of alleged corruption by insurance brokers at insurance companies.

The parked vehicles blocked the flow of traffic in the area causing heavy traffic congestion on Rivonia Road in Illovo to Outspan Road in Morningside.

One protesting tow truck driver said the tow truck companies were angered by the alleged corruption in insurance companies. He said protesting tow truck companies have a ‘deal’ with their main insurance service provides, however, he alleged that individual brokers were giving the tow truck drivers’ work to smaller companies.

This caused anger among many tow truck drivers who wanted to have their voices heard.

Journalist Andrei van Wyk is battling his way through to traffic to get to the scene.

Updates to follow as more information comes to light.
