The suspect from Alexandra was arrested in Marlboro on 30 September after he lured a minor from Alexandra and allegedly raped her in a cemetery in Marlboro.
According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley police, the shocking incident took place in the morning when the victim was on her way to school.
“According to the victim’s mother, as the child was making her way to school, the suspect stopped her and managed to force her into his car after she refused to willingly get in,” he said.
The suspect then drove to Marlboro where he threatened to shoot her if she didn’t remove her underwear and he proceeded to rape her.
Maphakela explained that while the horrific ordeal was unfolding, a Metro police officer spotted the vehicle which was parked in the cemetery and approached the scene.
“The suspect was then arrested and taken to Bramley Police Station where he was charged with rape,” Maphakela said.
He alleged that the police had linked the suspect to two other cases of rape, also involving minors, and the suspect confessed to one of the cases.
Maphakela appealed to residents to come forward with any information regarding rape cases involving minors in the area.
The suspect has since appeared in Randburg Magistrates’ Court and will appear again on 7 October for a bail hearing. The case continues.
