Two brothers busted with an unlicensed firearm in Birnam

BIRNAM – Two brothers aged 25 and 35 were recently arrested by Bramley police after being caught in possession of a firearm without a license in Birnam.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley police, said the two suspects were stopped by police officers during a stop-and-search operation.

“One of the suspects was found in possession of a silver 9mm pistol with 11 rounds of bullets,” explained Maphakela.

He said the suspects failed to produce a licence for the firearm when the police requested it and were arrested on the spot. Maphakela added that records allegedly showed that the pistol actually belonged to the suspects’ father.

He also said police records showed that both suspects had allegedly been involved in previous cases of armed robbery, theft, fraud and hijacking, however, the Sandton Chronicle has not been able to establish what happened to these cases.

Maphakela added that one of the suspects also allegedly attempted to cash a fake cheque.

The suspects were detained at Bramley Police Station and are expected to appear in court soon.
